Professional development in 2024 Catalyzing school innovation through STEAM education The Acera Education Innovation initiative partners with teachers, public schools and district leaders to cultivate a love of learning through student choice, voice, agency and hands-on STEAM learning . By offering customizable and scalable programs, we form partnerships that lead to long-term success: highly engaged students who experience the joy of learning—and who become inspired to tackle the challenges of our changing world. What do we offer? Curriculum, tools, and training for teachers AceraEI partners with public schools to offer 50+ modules in engineering, computer science, robotics, life sciences, makerspace learning, design thinking, and social and emotional learning. Our consultants provide teacher support and mentorship every step of the way. Our programs & curricula Resources and mentorship for school leaders We help schools and districts achieve their goals : increased teacher satisfaction, retention, and confidence; authentic student engagement and positive attitudes toward STEAM learning; enhanced performance on NGSS assessments and mastery of ISTE standards. For educators Expertise based on real-life experience and results Acera’s Education Inovation initiative grew out of our own K-10 lab school, Acera : The Massachusetts School of Science, Creativity and Leadership. Our approach is built around evidence-based pedagogy that results in student growth and creativity via joyful learning . Our story Fostering joyful learning AceraEI’s STEAM modules are aligned to Next Generation Science Standards and have been vigorously pilot-tested at Acera’s K-10 lab school. Our curriculum includes: Creative computing Life sciences Mindfulness Student voice Robotics: Microbit engineering This series of lessons combines coding and electronics to guide students through programming physical devices. This is called physical computing. Students gain expertise across multiple contexts as they develop hands-on robotics projects. More modules... Life Sciences: Gene editing with CRISPR The landscape of genetic engineering has changed with the use of CRISPR for gene editing in humans. Students study the theory in new ways, explore how gene editing can be done responsibly, and discuss the ethics of its use. More modules... Mindfulness toolkit Teachers implement a series of lessons based on developing Social Emotional Learning (SEL) in the elementary and early adolescent years, in which students develop a mindfulness practice using these tools. More modules... Student Voice: Storytelling through coding Students use visual coding languages to tell stories and express ideas.
